SISTERS IN SPIRIT

A CAMPAIGN OF THE NATIVE WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION OF CANADA (NWAC)

On March 22nd 2004, the Native Women's Association of Canada started in Ottawa the „Sisters in Spirit" Campaign in ten different cities. With the support of Amnesty International and other organisations, they try to raise public awareness of the situation of Aboriginal Women in Canada who have been fighting racism and sexism since colonialisation. In the last 20 years, more than 500 Aboriginal Women were reported murdered or missing, but the Canadian authorities didn't react on it. Therefore the "Sisters in Spirit" Campaign calls out attention to the terrible situation of the Aboriginal Women in Canada.
